replace intake mani. to get rid of "sputter"?

On the SVT, I hear all these folks getting their intake mani replaced to get rid of a cold start exhaust inconsistence. True? I have this issue and am quite perplexed.

I'm not sure of the reason why the intake manifolds were replaced,
but a fair amount of '02 owners have had to get that done.

Seems to me, they cracked, which could certainly cause the trouble you're experiencing.

They replaced mine when I took it in for a surging problem. The surging has gone down considerably since.

^^ They replaced mine when the DSI cable broke on my car, also. One other "manifold" related thing they do that tries to cure the sputtering idle is to replace the clamps on the intake runner hoses with a newer design. It didn't help.

I've lost track of all the various maintenance things that have been done to my car that might have made a difference, but it does seem like somewhere along the way the car stopped doing that AS MUCH. Still does it, just not as bad or as often as it used to.

I don't think I've ever seen a replacement SVTF intake, only one for the standard ZETEC.
One of those would work, but you would need to do some porting to match it to the head.
You'd also be losing the dual stage intake runner functionality.
