Custom Tune Worth the $$$???

I just read the thread about custom tunes and was envious of the results that drivers were having, often times the exact things that I wish I could take away from my SVTF. But I was wondering, are the gains really worth $300-500? I'm just a guy with little money to spare, so I was curious if it would be worth my while to try to come up with the money to spare. Any thoughts??? Also, any must-have mods to go with a tune?

Also, has anyone had both Tom's and Hypnotic's tunes? Is there any difference?

Honestly, it will drive like a totally different car --- I have Hypnotic's tune. There are tons of testimonials on this stuff. You won't be sorry that you spent the money.

I cut and pasted one of my replys from another thread and providid links to two more good threads with my comments in them. Review the two threads I providid links to and check out my comments on them. Let me/us know what you think.

You'll get about the same dyno results from both tunes but I went with the Predator due to it being a better piece of hardware. Toms tune is not more money than Waynes it is the Predator all the money is going to. The predator is $399 off of Diablo's website so you are only paying $100 for the tune (the other $20 to $15 is shippping). I just wanted a piece of equipment that I can continue to use once I flash my car. Instead of flashing your car with the SCT and sticking it in the closet you can use the Predator when ever you want to play around with the data logging and its other features. People say "I don't need data logging" but if I asked you how your cai works in the summer all you could say is "good I guess" with the Predator you could know the exact temp of the air that reaches the MAF sensor. You could also monitor your cooling system temp, the amount of air flow the MAF sensor is reading, the list goes on and on but this info is usefull. In my loose opinion its like buying two big screen TV's, are you willing to pay more for the better product or do you just want the cheapest big screen just so you can say you have a big screen. I'm not saying that SCT is cheap that was just an example (maybe a bad one).

Diablo questions?

^^^ I'm starting to think that you are on Diablo's payroll.

Seriously though, since money is an issue, then definitely go with the SCT. It is $150 cheaper, will give you the same results, and most people will not NEED the datalogging features. Sure it would be nice, but if you don't need it, then stick with the SCT. I would vouch for Wayne's tune, the gains are amazing, it is like a completely new car (tell him SVTmonkey sent ya ).

So to answer your question, yes it is definitely worth the money. Best money you will spend on this car, trust me.

SVTmonkey, I see you found me again. I don't support anyone, I stat my opinion and just because it is in favor of Diablo just means I feel they have a better product. Did you see the new thread about people having problems with the SCT and they have all been trying to send them back and get a new one? Where is the thread for everyone having problems with the Diablo (not just with Toms tune)? I don't think there is a thread that says people can not get there Predator working. Dude suck it up and just admit the Diablo is a better product, I'm not even talking about tunes right now just the hardware. Now with the hardware aside how about the tunes? Your talking the same dyno results from both tunes (or close to it) yet there are people that can't get there SCT flashers to work and there are none (or none that has posted) that can't get there predator to work. I don't know how much more proof/facts/data that you need. Support who you want and stay off my ass. I will not give in and bow down to worship the ground you walk on. Get over it.

This bites.... SCT not up to par, and cant find Wayne.

Damn, stop doing that. You got my panties all in a bunch. No hard feelings. I do support the Predator, as for the tune it makes no diffrence to me I just feel the more money for the Predator is justified (if you use the features). Then again if you would not use any of the Predator features at all then I could see going with the SCT but don't go with the SCT just because it is cheaper. The choice is up to the buyer but what I have stated in many posts is just my opinion.

I read up on all the threads I've seen, and it appears as though the general concensus is that the Predator has more feature content, if you're willing to shell out the extra money. As for the SCT, though there have been problems, I haven't seen any recent posts (last ones were in late 2003 I think).

So my final question is, does the SCT allow you to reflash the original configuration onto the car for taking it into the dealer? Because if it can, then that might be the way I'd go. The Predator sounds like higher quality, which is something to consider, but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra money.

Yes, they both allow you to flash your stock tune back onto your car. It stores it in the SCT or Predator and you can down load it back into your car in under 10min. Don't get me wrong the SCT does what it says it does but once you get done flashing your car thats it, your done with it. What I like about the predator is come this spring when I start messing under the hood alittle I can tell exactly what I am doing and if the effect was negative or positive by looking at the data logs. When you compare price don't think of it like you are only paying for the tune, alot of people say "Toms is almost $500". His tune is only costing like $100 since the predator alone is $399. Same goes for the SCT, I don't know the prices for sure but your paying around $100 for the tune and the rest towards the hardware. I just wanted to point that out.

What if I know someone who has a predator? Can I buy the flash by itself, put it on the predator, and put the flash on my car? Would that work?
