6 speed? what about a 5...

Well when i first got my SVTF i raced my bros zx3 with a svt exhaust on it, which makes the car runs 10 times better, but back to the story.

We take off and he usually kills me off the line, most of it was the driver skill and just knowing the car. But he posed the question of maybe a 5 speed in the SVTF would have given it more torque? or maybe just a better pull off the line.

I know SVT wanted to make the perfect car, cumfortable, fast, handeling, breaking and power all are equal yet if they put the 5 speed in gass miladge probibaly would have been alot worse. either way it is a question as to why not the 5 speed the Lighting and Cobra both have shitty gass milage why not the Focus, just for that extra acceleration id do it.

Also would the 5 speed actually hook up more torque?

Well the cobra and the lightning have a much larger engine, secondly they are rear wheel drive which means you would have to get a transfer case for front wheel. Another thing is that the getrag is a sweet transmission from the factory. 6 speed seems what the new performance market wants. I believe on the 04 cobra its a 6 speed actually...

its traction control and torque that are killing you off the line ... get a tune or other modification that will wake up the low end torque ... Ford tuned these cars for safe launches but they prolly overdid it a bit. The 6 speed is awesome --- you have 5 race gears and one touring ... its a thing of beauty.

Keep in mind that the intent for the SVTF is not to drag race but to road race. The 6 speed is geared toward road racing and allowing the driver more flexability on the road. And im not sure if you will get that much more acceleration out of a five speed. I know that I can do nearly 70MPH in 2nd gear in my SVTF. I dont think a 5 speed will give you that, you may be shifting more which will negate any advantage a 5 may give you. What you will find out is that most 5 speeds have an OD. Your top end would suffer.

I raced a ZX3 with a few mods and we were even until I hit second....

Perhaps you're not getting a good enough launch.

For some reason I was under the impression that the lightning was an automatic. Or maybe its just an option.
