Airbox resonator mod

I was surfing the web and I found something about a mod where you take the resonator/silencer out of the airbox for a little extra noise. Is this a bad idea? Has anyone done it? What are the results?

Yep, a little extra noise is about all you get, no power gain. I ditched my stock box for a AEM CAI and never looked back!!! lol

^^^I agree^^^
No real performance gain, but it sure sounds better.
You can really tell when you're sucking the air in now.
I popped mine out, and put in an ITG Pro drop in air filter.
Actually, between the 2, it was well worth it.
Picked up a couple mpg's, and throttle response improved a tad.

There's some good reading in this thread...>>>Clicky

And, to channel a little cold air into that openning...>>>Clicky

Yeah, before the intake I did this. The service guys at Ford noticed it too and wrote down that my car was "growling" on one of the invoices, lol. Not a bad mod at all.

So what sort of gains of performance or sound should I expect if I take out the resonator and do the thing @ this site
http://myfordfocus.com/how-to/ice-man-clone.htm
mentioned by WD40?

And would this make my warranty go away?

It seems like I remember reading a post on here somewhere that it can't be modified to fit the SVT because the design is so different due to the T/B on the ZTEC being in a different location, but I could be wrong.

Yeah I saw a pic of the Volant CAI and it looked like it was on the other side of the engine compartment. Unfortunate... but aren't those things pretty expensive?
