anyone have alternator problems?

My battery light flickered a few times in the past week, and I've already had the updated ECU flash. Also, my lights (dash, interior, headlights) flicker at an idle sometimes. I plan on having the dealer look at it since its still under warranty, but I figured I'd ask first to see how probable this might be.

Thanks,
Nick

Hi Nick,

This is actually an ongoing problem with the SVT's that was supposed to be cured by the YRF0 update...........and it was........for all of about let's say 2-3 weeks tops for most owners it seems. Call SVTOA and let them make a record of it so that Ford knows. When I saw mine flicker after the flash I decided to try something on my own since can't seem to get it quite right yet. I installed a Grounding kit (One of the HKS knock-off's) and I haven't seen the battery light since, not the flickering lights or the stalling I would see every once in a while. It's been 5 weeks since I installed it. Hope this helps or at least sheds some a little light.

Thanks for the info, I'll make a call to SVTOA as soon as possible and let them know. The battery light only flickered a few times; I'm more concerned with the headlights/foglights flickering at idle. I noticed the odometerflickering at night the first night I had the car, but I just thought the lcd screen was crap. Now though I noticed the headlights doing the same thing and I'm concerned. I was hoping to get the AEM tru power alt pulley, but I don't want to possibly make the problem worse.

How much does one of those grounding kits cost? I've seen them around before, but I've dismissed them as unnecesssary. How extensive are the kits and how long will the install take?

Thanks,
Nick

hey , dont think that the alternator is outta the question, i had my battery light come up a lot of times ford kept giving me new one and it was a bad alternator that was the problem (obviously). But i ended up paying for it cause ford wouldnt do it they said it was fine. But on a roadtrip on a sunday in the middle of Wow you have two teeth-ville the alternator finally told me to screw off and i had to get it replaced.

You might know better than the dealer tells you in most cases, apparently even though ford pays them for repairs they dont like fixing warranty items. I dont get it and ive gotten the run around for 2 months already trying to get them to reimburse me since they told me it wasnt the alternator like 3 times.

unless the recall service bulletin applies to your specific year and production run they will not do them

I dont have an svt, but the same thing happened to my car a month ago, i drove it another day or so because the dealership was closed for something, and the altinator died. So maybe it is the altenator. (hopefully you have fixed the problem by now)

I'm on #4 with a grounding kit since #2, I think the next one is going to be aftermarket, if this doesn't work then the harness is coming off.
