Cat heat shield

So the bolts that hold the heat shield on my cat rusted through and now when I drive I hear it rattle and it's starting to drive me nuts and was wondering if it is ok to just cut it off cause with the cat being close to the oil pan I want to know if it is safe and won't overheat the oil and cause the oil to break down faster

My cat doesn't have any of the heat shields on them and I have no problems so far. It still takes a while for the oil to heat up and it still stays within a normal range according to the oil temp gauge.

I wrapped my CAT with the heat insulating tape you can use to also wrap exhausts. It certainly cuts down the amount of heat radiated.

I've read elsewhere claims that wrapping your CAT will cause it to fail sooner due to the higher temperatures inside it. But so far I've had no issues in the 2 years since I did it.
