Local parts store , ask for a thermostat for a 1996 contour 2.0 DOHC Zetec then ask for it in a 180 , then confirm by looking in the bottom of it and seeing it stamped 180

The thermostat alone wont do much with out a tune to turn the fans on sooner , the hi speed fan wont come on stock till about 246 deg

The SVT header is very good , the ORP or HFC is needed then a 2.5 to 3 inch Exh , 3 inch making the best performance with a ORP 3 inch

It's not a stupid question... we all have to start somewhere! I'd go with the tune first! I had Tom's tune on my SVT and it was a great investment. Car seemed smoother and quicker, for sure. It's great too that he'll send you new tunes for free as you add more upgrades. Keep the SVT's alive!!!

I'd look into replacing the plastic DSI clip with a metal one if it hasn't been done already. The plastic one cracks easliy and the metal one is cheap and basically lasts forever.

Also, keep an eye on that stock thermostat housing you installed. It should be fine for a while, but they are famous for becoming leaky over time. The CFM modified thermostat housing isn't cheap, but built much better. I was on my third leaky stock thermostat housing by they time I traded in the ol' SVT for an ST.
