How do you drive your SVT?

The SVT has one of the most interesting and fun gearboxes! The gear ratio's in 3rd and 4th, however, almost seem identical to me(this is probably due to it being located on the 2nd layshaft). How do you drive your SVT? Which gears do you use for intown/fuel mileage/etc. I've studied the Getrag Tranny, and the gear ratio's. I understand, but at the same time I don't haha.

Its cool to have a 6 speed but in our cars its really un necissary for day to day driving. when driving like a grandpa i sometimes find myself skipping 4th or 5th getting on to the freeway just because there un needed. on windy roads not driving aggressivly i dont even use 6th. This car is new to me ive put under 1.5k on it so far so who knows this may change as i learn its quarks.

I drive my SVTF for gas mileage since its my DD. Average 29mpg year round, half city half highway driving. Occasionally I'll drive it a little spirited but its mainly just cruising for me. I'm usually always in 6th if I'm at speeds above 40, even on some fun back roads since she handles good enough to keep it from bogging down. Never really skip gears unless I'm feeling lazy though, because I don't notice an increase in mileage. Being a close ratio 6speed, the gears are going to feel like there's not much of a difference between them, while driving normal on flat roads at least. Get into a mounteous region or a road with hills and she'll let you know real quick there's a big difference when your not in the right power ban to climb the hill. I'm no expert though, and most of the 50k miles driving my FO is easy back and forth to work.

Overall the only complaint I have is with 6th, for me at least, it could be a bit deeper of an OD for better gas mileage lol.

Bill

I wish first was steeper and 6th was shallower. Would give it better take off and better mileage
In the city I normally would skip 4th and go to 5th.

Just bought mine about 4 days ago but have driving in all kinds of conditions like city freeway and mountain turns. I like to use all my gears. It has been a good car so far.

Last couple weeks I've been trying (not always succeeding) to drive a bit more...rationally, but usually, I drive mine quite hard. I'm nearly always above 3k5 on the tach, between 2 and 5th gears. 6th is too high up there to use unless I'm above 85-90, or just cruising at low revs.

I never cared for the getrag for daily driving. First was way too tall, and 6th was a bit to low.

That being said, on the track, it was a whole different story. 2,3,&4 were a match made in heaven in the twisties.

Lately I've been trying to get maximum mileage by driving at the lowest RPM that it can take. Occasionally I'll take it to 7k to clear the motor out, these motors need it every once and a while. I used to drive it fast when I first bought it, compared to my HCI fox Mustang the SVT was so quiet I couldn't tell how fast I was going on the highway.

Lowest rpm possible doesnt necessarily mean mileage. If you bog your engine too much you are losing efficiency.

Ive found that the SVT gets the best milage right around 2900-3000rpm if you hold it consistantly. Take a long road trip, cruise control it at 65-70, and you can see over 35mpg if conditions are right. I managed to get 40 once.
