Welcome to the forum, moved your thread to the SVT performance chat area since your not having a technical problem. You'll need 50' by 2" wide for best coverage. Now what brand you buy is up to you and that will determine the cost. [thumb]
The better one to use and most expensive is the titanium wrap. It does the best job and keeping the heat retained and it looks cool as an extra benefit. CFM a sponsor/vendor on here sells it.
The titanium wrap that was suggested is a real good one, but it doesn't last very long. Mine lasted 4 months ... but then again, I AutoX my ride, so I am not sure if all of that extra heat weakened the wrap as well.
Plus we live in a very very humid state, TX. So that could also contribute to the short life of mine.
Mine eventually rotted away too. If you use the wrap spray stuff (usually right next to the wrap at the auto parts store) it supposed to help it from rotting away has quickly. Mine last a couple of years, but if you touched it, it would just fall apart. I also used the cheapest stuff I could find (ebay FTW!).
No not really, I posted a pic of what it looked like before in a thread. I'm at work or I would post the pic for you to see. If I remember when I get home I'll post it for you to see.
heres a tip from someone whos wrapped many motorcycle exhausts,
You wont have to worry about rust the only time you need to worry about wrap is on "Titanium exhausts", more common on bikes over time the wrap will soak in moisture and can crack the Titanium.
Ive always used DEI brand wrap + spray
grind off the heat shield nubs, get a bucket and get the wrap wet, put the wrap on wet overlapping 1 inch of the 2in and pull it "TIGHT" as your wrapping to make it nice, I find the 1 inch alot easier to work with and looks nicer when done, but 2 inch may be the way to go on the SVT header since its bigger , also get the header wrap spray allow wrap to dry for 24hrs before you spray it on then allow another 24 hours for the spray to dry before you put it on the car.
I like black personally, if done this way it should last around 2-3 years.
I don't believe this to be the case. On DEI's site they say the Titanium wrap is different then the other regular wraps they have. They specifically say that the spray is not needed/recommended with the titanium wrap and that it also does not need to be soaked in water before application due to it's much more pliable nature. Just what I've seen and read about it anyway.
Ok the only diffrence between the Black,White, Tan and the Titanium is
1) its a different kind of weave. (both look good in my opinion)
2.) in the FAQ's it says If you are going to wrap any kind of steel pipe we recommend using DEI HT Silicone Coating to spray the header or pipes prior to applying Titanium exhaust wrap. However, there is no need to apply DEI HT Silicone Coating to Titanium wrap. ( so you still need the coating you just put it on before instead of after)
3.)Withstands 1800˚F direct/2500˚F intermittent heat rather than Withstands 1200°F direct/2000°F of the standard wrap.(average exhaust temps on headers of a well tuned vehicle shouldnt go above 1000 degrees.... and some seen as high 1600 degrees EGT on some turbo applications with lean conditions)
4.) it says you dont "have" to wet it thats cool dont but I guarantee you it will look better if you wet it first Ive done it both ways wet has always looked better plus it sticks to the pipe better as you're wrapping it.
5.) Obviously the colors and really its just a marketing gimmick haha they are practically the same price, hah and some of you are saying the Ti only lasted a few months???? Ill stick with black EVERY time Ive done it its been good for 2-3 YEARS
I would recommend the Titanium exhaust wrap 2'' wide by 50 foot. It is $44.95. Here is the link. We do tend to sell more of those than the Tan/white or the black ones.
