Got both o2 Sensors Replaced Today...

I read a thread a few months ago about hitting a pothole and having to replace both O2 sensors. I tried to avoid potholes and general scraping like the plague since then.

Last night I scraped bottom and about 30 minutes later my Check Engine Light came on. Took it into the dealer and went "I don't know why it's on sir!" knowing exactly what the problem was, and thankfully they replaced both sensors under warranty. They claimed that the sensors were putting out the wrong data (that didn't make any sense to me because the car ran fine, sans the CEL).

Is there anything we can do to keep this from happening again? With a car as low to the ground as this one, you would think that they would keep any sort of important sensors thoroughly covered up. Has anyone made a skid plate or anything?

Damn, how big are those potholes?!?! That dealership was real nice. O2 sensors are based off of a chemical reaction that is really hard to throw so far off as to get the wrong data. The dealership must have been having a good day and didn't want to harass you about bottoming the car out.

UHHH my O2 sensors are mounted on top of the pipe just before the cat. How the hell did you damage the sensor by hitting a pothole? Must of been HUGE!!

What happens is you bottom out and the headers slam into the ground and bend back some, then your front O2 sensor will this the spot where the block and the oil pan come together. My buddy just jumped his foci (not on purpose, he didn't know the road) and bent his headers back and snapped off the O2 sensor....needless to say he now has to buy new headers. Poor bastard...lol...Colin Mcrae style there baby!

There's one on the bottom after the CAT.

Actually I was leaving a gas station. The exit had angled pavement, but the actual road I was getting on was a few inches higher. Usually I notice stuff like that, but it was dark and I was pissed at my girlfriend for running out of gas.*

*With a normal girlfriend, it wouldn't of been a big deal but this is like the 3rd time she's done it this year.

Not on a 2002 buddy, Look again.

Anyways if you're hitting potholes that big you shouldn't be driving a car, get a full size truck.

So you bent the headers and the O2 sensor slammed into the oil pan, man OPEN YOUR EYES next time it helps when you're drving a car.

LOL, Sorry to hear that. I dented my header when I pulled into Orielly's and tried parking in the doors. Was the front fascia messed up?
