here's a new one!!

My car starts fluttering on my way home tonight ..like loosing power but not stalling...then I get it up in the barn and look at it in the dark to check for maybe arcs on my wires or something ,,,and I see my exhaust headers glowing red hot..which on old motors means the timing is too far retarded..any clues, I got the weekend to fix it before I start commuting again.

Plugged cat, t-belt jumped a tooth or running lean or rich. How many miles are on the car? No check engine light or anything?

Yes it's possible just buy a ORP (off road pipe) you can get them at CFM and some other places too.

But before you go dropping cash on something that may or may not be the problem you should check some other things, like maintenance items. How many miles are on your car?

If you find the cat is plugged, we used to just bust out the brick and re-install. This would get you back on the road on the cheap.
