ummm, you got a shortthrow shifter? that stock shifter was sloppy as hell but i still never missed 2nd.......it was either 3rd or 5th cause id let up on the clutch to fast cause it takes i guess a tad bit longer to shift into 3rd and 5th?

Check out the threads about changing the rear engine mount. Improves the accuracy of shifting, especially under load. The part is around $100 and is easy to replace.

NO, What you need is to learn how to drive. HOW THE H3LL DO YOU MISS 2nd??

I don't even think it's possible to miss 2nd. Someone tag in here that's been driving various manual trannies for a while. Stop Double clutching and it'll fix that problem.

yea i dont think ive ever missed a gear in a race, the only time i ever really miss gears is if im getting lazy and i let the clutch out to early, but yea i dont think u can blame missing 2nd gear on the car, i know when i miss gears its my fault.

It is almost embarrassing to agree with thefrush, but it is easy to not have the focus slide into second when shifting fast. This is the sixth manual transmission car I have owned and the only one that "acts" like that. This seams to be worse under hard accelleration, because of the engine moving.

I am planning to put in the before mentioned rear engine mount which reduces that problem under hard accelleration.

Just notice that both of you have 04's and have this issue. Hmmmm....?????

Well truth be told I've never had a problem missing 2nd gear, even without my STS. Also a attempt at a double clutch, or disengaging of the clutch before proper shift will prevent the tranny from going into gear, hence a missed gear. I've been guilty of releasing the clutch too soon and missed 2nd, also costing me the race. My fault all the way, also it was easy to do, and I've been driving a manual since I was 14.

Point is, missing a gear is something every manual driver has done at one time or another. Even the best of drivers have done so.

Missing gears is not due to the transmission and engine moving, it's due to driver error. The purpose of those Mounts as advertised are to limit the movement of the engine and tranny so that there isn't any power loss due to the torque being absorbed by the mounts. I've got an 02 and have only missed from 6th to 3rd a couple of times on the interstate.

DRIVER ERROR. Your engine doesn't make as much torque as a drag car, why the h3ll are you trying to compare the two. They've got a ton of torque where as we only have 145 ft/lbs. So you mean to tell me that you're shifting so fast that your faster than the synchros in the tranny. Also if what you said was true then I'd suggest stopping that because your going to mess up the linkage, it ought to be pretty bent out of shape by now.

Dude I'll be at Beale AFB a week from monday. That's just north of Sacramento by 47 miles and south of Yuba City by 5 miles. If it's a bad mount then why not get it warrantied?
