Check Engine Light

hi, i just got a check engine light today as i down shifted into third when slowing down to get on the off ramp on the highway, i don't seem to have a problem, seems to drive ok, not sure what the problem is, do you think an Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge Can cause this to go on, since the wire to read off comes from the first O2 sensor black wire, you think there could have been a problem. i have a 2002 SVTF with 15.9k miles on it, you think that's when the problems start happening? thanks in advance

J

The engine light is for an emission control problem. So yes, I would say your gauge is the source of the problem.
The last time I had an check engine light I unplugged the battery for 1/2 an hour and it cleared it.
If it appears again later, you know it not just a false reading.

I had a similar problem with my car right after I got off the freeway. My cam sensor got stuck retarding the timing for a split second and caused my CEL to come on. The tech cleared the code and retested and my car has been fine since (8k miles). Hopefully nothing major w/ your car but looks like you still have some warranty remaining. Good Luck!!!

OK, this happens to me quite a bit. try going to a gas station, and putitng in a gallon or two of the premium gas, sometimes even if you buy 92 octane, the gas can be bad. after i put the gas in it usually goes away. if it doesn't, i would put some octane boost in your tank happend to me once and the octane boost fixed it

Bad gas isn't corrected by higher octane.

If your knocking from too low octane, that would happen most under load, not when downshifting.

yea, so funny, i just filled up with 94 octane like 10miles before it went off! could it be the gas causing the problem? also i have a Cold air intake, should i take it off before i bring it in for warranty work?

Yes take it off. They will blame that part for every troubles they can find. "Your alignment is off, it's probably due to your intake!" ah!
