C.O.P. conversion
Hey everyone. Im gettin ready to do a coil on plug conversion on my car. (just so everyone knows, im doing this to clean up the engine compartment. not for any hint of performance. I cant find a quality coil cover from anywhere.) I have a coil to use for the connector, four coils, four connectors, and wiring. the only question I have is is there suppose to be a resistor or capacitor somewhere in the harness that im about to make? I have looked at multiple schematics and posts on this conversion but none mention this. Thanks in advance for all the help. Later.

Not that I've ever seen, but it would also depend on what coils you're using. So far 300m coils and stock duratec coils work just fine.
I'm running 300m coils and went by the schematic Jay Racing sent me:

Ya as long as you use the chrysler coils and wire it like in that picture you're fine the ohms stay exactly the same as a stock coil that way and you're not adding any stress to your coil driver circuit. The only draw back to performance is at high rev or under heavy cylinder load such as forced induction or high compression they can't keep up the same w ay the stock coil will however that can easily be overcome with the addition of an msd box if you ever need it.

^You do realize I'm revving to 8,000 rpm and making ~185whp, right?
The 300m coils do just fine, not a single hiccup.

I think the OP is asking about the EMI or RFI suppressor or whatever it is. There's one screwed on the coil bracket, I think as long as you don't cut that out when you do the COP wiring it should be ok. I thought about doing a COP conversion and it's been awhile since I did the research so don't quote me on it.

Been thinking about this myself. The zetec starts to look real clean once you delete all emission stuff and the coil IMO.

Thanks everyone. I'm using the 2.3L coils from an 04? focus. I do plan on leaving that suppresor thingy next to the coil in tact. just mounted differently. And sleepy, that is totally why im doing this. to make it look clean. On a side note, has anyone looked into the coils on the 3.7L chrysler/dodge V6 to see if they would work as well? I saw one today on a jeep liberty during a tune-up. They are a 2 wire coil that is compact. Thanks again. Later.

Crappy pic but you can see how much space is cleaned up with out the EGR and coil pack there. Never thought about doing it till I had to replaced my coil bracket. It literally opened my eyes to the idea.

You can see the bell housing on the transmission it's so open.

Nice. thats the clean im going for. browse the local pickapart or pullapart for the coils. buy 5 just in case one is bad so you dont have to make a return trip. and dont forget the connectors as well.

Once I get my lazy ass around to cleaning things up again my bay should look sorta clean (for a zetec). And yes the EGR and coil take up a decent amount of room.

I would thing the 3.7 coils would be very similar to the 300' ones. Haven't seen them personally but Dodge isn't one to make specific things for specific models, they just grad whatever from the parts bin and make it work ... for a little while.

And if it's the same connector changes are it's the same basic coil,,, but the boot may be longer or shorter which isn't a big deal.
And FYI, the 300 coils use a ... dammit, now I can't find the post ... IIRC it's a Toyota fuel injector pigtail/connector.
And they come from the v-6 model 300 and not the Hemi ones. Basically anything you find on a DSM/EVO site if the same for us.
