New Svt Owner......need Some Answers!!!

Whats up everyone. For those of you who didnt know I bought an 04 SVT last Wed. First let me start of by saying I love the car but I do want to know few things and I am a little dissappointed in a few things. so here we go

1. How long does it take for the engine to get "broke in"? I have heard that you dont need to take it over 4000 RPM;s is that TRUE?????
2. I test drove a stock SVT with about 15k miles on it and it felt like it had WAY more power than mine. Could it be that the engine is just not broke in or what??? I mean it hardly feels like its pulling at all.
3. GAS MILEAGE......ok look i know that is supposed to have more power but DAMN 22-23mpg on a mix of hwy and city???? Will that get any better or should I do some kind of mods to help gas mileage???
4. The stock system. Well I have a couple of questions. First if I take out the stock headunit will I still be able to use the amp and sub??? Next is it mp3 capable i have the 9006.
5. BRAKE DUST. Is it just the brakes breaking in or what. Becuse I have way more dust on my wheels on my svt than I ever did on my regular ZX3.

Lastly, I have never owned a brand new car are these things siomething i should expect or what. I also would like to say that i do LOVE my svt just want to know if these things are normal or what. Thanks in advance for everyones time and effort.

Congrats on your new ride. As for the "break in" period, SVT's do seem to get faster with time, it seems like the break in period is over 1000's of miles, not hundreds. Don't get your underwear all in a bunch with the 4000 RPM limit, the trick to breaking in a new engine is to keep the revs all over the place (don't spend too much time at redline though) ride it around town, row through the gears, but don't take it for a 900 mile 65 MPH drone. 2. check the firmware on your computer, there is a new flash available that makes a dramatic change in how the engine runs. 3. Gas mileage seems to be one of those things that comes much later. When my SVT was "young" 0-6000 miles, I usually got 23-25 MPG. Now, after 9000 it seems to stay in the 26-28 range (note I'm a bit of a wimp driver but no matter how wimpy I am, it's still a SVT.) 4. Audio: I've got the 6-disk changer and it's sufficient, I believe that the 1-disk unit for 2004 is MP3 capable. 5. Brake dust is a reality, my wheels crud up within a week; fortunately I've got the 15-spoke Euro wheels which are a little darker so it doesn't show as much. Good luck with your new car and remember "Don't get uptight about things, ENJOY your car, it's one of the funnest vehicles on the road".

^^what gukin said is pretty much dead on.

As for the brake dust, get some Black Magic Wheel cleaner wipes, and clean those suckers. After the first time the dust will come off much easier from then on and doesn't seem to stick as bad either.

There is no reflash for the 04 focus it already has the newest update from the factory. I have the brake dust problem 2 and there isn't much that can be done for it except keep cleaning the wheels you don't want to let that sit on the wheels for long, my gas mileage averages around 27-28 with a good mix of city and highway and it got better after I got a few miles on the car I have 5000 miles now. But they are much more fun than regular foci.

Seems like atleast once a day someone posts about an 04 SVTF and another with an 02 or 03 SVTF says to get your ECU flashed. THERE IS NO FLASH AVAILABLE FOR the 04's. THEY COME FROM THE FACTORY WITH THE ZED0 FLASH ALREADY. The YRF0 IS ONLY FOR THE 02 and 03 SVTF's. This has been covered atleast a zillion times in countless posts.

<sorry for the rant. I just get tired of seeing this ALL the time>

LoL true true.

Yes the brakepads tend to dust rather easily on my 02 with 16k still are covered after about 4 days. My mpg have leveled out at 26-28 but I tend to rev it to 3500rpms, I don't like to make it lunge. Congrats on the new car, isn't it fun to drive?

You wont be able to use the stock sub and amp without some modification. There are some tutorials on focal jet and i think in the Audio section of this website. Brake dust is a problem with the pads that come with the SVT, i just put up with it and then when it was time to replace i upgraded to Mintex. They seem to have much less dust, but still some left. Congrats on your new car.
