^^^Yeah, the same thing happened to me..none of that fancy stuff in the console. Was your 12volt connector a freaking pain to get out? I just left mine in and swiveled the console out of the way...I had plenty of room.

"By the simple design"... man, totally agree with you. It wasn't THAT much shorter than stock, but with the relocated pivot joints, it feels so much better!

Ok, i got my FRPP STS, the tools i need, and printed these instructions w/pics. I'm going to install it tomorrow. Thanks for this great write up WD40!

I also used these instructions, along with the ones that came with the shifter, and it was truly easy!

Difficulty was about a 1 out of 5, 5 being the hardest.

Definitely notice a much firmer shift, and enjoy the closer ratio very much.

I've had it in now for about 3 weeks now, and for the most part i love it. 1st through 4th is awesome. 5th and 6th is still a ways to the right, as well as a little resistance, is that normal? Theres no way i could accidently hit 5th thinking it was 3rd, its that noticeable. Also, when going to 2nd from 1st, 2nd feels a little choppy, yet when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd, its totaly smooth. So thats weird. Reverse is still a , well you know. So overall the throws are way more positive, bit the above things are kinda bugging me. Could i have done something wrong during the install? Or is everyones like that? I followed WD40's instructions to the tee. Thanks.

I'll agree with the first part, but I don't notice any more resistance than the other gears.

Yep. That's a tough gate, and I'm not sure why.
You have to hit it right on the money.
When pulling the shifter back, I push it a very slight bit to the right and it goes in easier.

Reverse is still a , well you know.
Got that right!
I don't even grab the shifter to get it in reverse.
I "pop" it with the palm of my hand, then grab with my fingers and push forward.

For the most part, you're experiencing the "newness" of the shifter.
It should get smoother as time goes on.
If it doesn't, I'd suggest pulling it out and adding more lube.

Well, I installed my shifter just a few minutes ago. I'm about to finish up the final touches, but I wanted to say thanks to Doug for making such an easy to follow how-to guide. I lubed everything liberally so I don't have to relube the thing again. Reverse is a pain to get to even more so than before, but I think it'll just take a little more getting used to since the cable/white cup joint isn't used to stretching out that far.

I wasn't planning on getting the STS until Christmas time or so, but after driving Ataru's car, I ordered mine the same week. I knew how I wanted the shifter to feel, and the Ford Racing STS gets pretty damn close to what I was looking for. Definitely an upgrade anyone who likes to shift will enjoy. Now I just gotta find the new shift knob I want. See, I saved something for Christmas.

^^^Reverse is quite easy to get too if you 'pop' the shifter with your hand to get it into gear... instead of trying to fiddle it in there, just give it a good slap!
