Lemon time & car recommendations

Well... I think it might be lemon time for my little svtf so I need a few recommendations on another car.

So far I've got
1.8T Jetta/Golf
VR6 Jetta/Golf
99,00,01 Mustang GT
99 Mustang Cobra
2003/4 SVTF

Any feedback on those cars and maybe on some other cars. My limits are that it must be around ~17K, and it should have some potential. It doesn't have to be new. It's good to have it already broken in and not to worry about warranty.

99 Cobra or, I know its not on the list, but a Mazda 3 would be cool too.

It depends on if you are looking for an all out speed car or a drivers car? All out speed would definetly be the 99 Cobra hell i have seen a 2003 cobra already down to $22,000. Everyday driver car for winters and such a used WRX would do nicely plus you get a turbo with that!!

I drive a 1.8t VW GLI, take a look at my car domain list, highly recommended =) I think a 99 cobra would be cool, but the insurance and crappy traction in winter may not be worth it

yes an srt-4 can made quick as hell. yes a 99 cobra is fast, but if you buy a 99 cobra check it out big time. lots of problems with that specific year(hell svt gave out leather jackets cause the didnt make them as promised).

if you buy a VW i would def say the 1.8t some nice lil turbo upgrades and VWs get real quicj real fast

however if it were me i would go with an "older" mustang gt. thats just me, lots of potential, wonderful exhaust sound, a great deal of info out there and the insurance would be cheaper than the cobra :p

VR6 GTI.

A chip, intake, & exhaust is good for about 190hp at the wheels. Torque all over the place and you don't need to worry about a turbo or revving its balls off.

If you want more hp the 1.8T is ok.

V8 Mustangs are always fun, but I would hate to fill that tank every week... but you can get remanufactured Powerdyne/Vortec kits on ebay for $1000 and have a monster.

I'll bite, I'll mention what I considered, what I liked & why I didn't get it.

Matrix XRS/ Vibe GT Lots of room for stuff, peppy engine, great mileage, Had to rev like hell, sucky ride, sucky handling, lame stereo.

Mazda 3: Lots of stuff, medocre handling, weaker engine. Awful center console, just like a SUV

WRX: killer power, lots of room, great quality. $$$$, too big, lousy mileage, too heavy.

VW GTI: WIcked engine, light small. Out of date design, too small on the inside.

Protege: great handling, small, roomy. Weak engine, last year's model.

Tiburon: Great price, nice looks, good warranty. Big weak engine, too small inside.

Civic: Nice seats, decent handling, okay engine. Center console , 5 speed, 15" wheels.

Acura RSX: nice seats, good engine, great mileage. Too expensive, older model, too heavy, not "serious" enough.

Mini: Cute, awesome handling & performance. Too rare, too much markup, too small.

Cavalier: . . . uh no.

Suzuki Aerio: Really big inside, peppy engine, cheap. Crud tires, shocks & handling weak, rotton resale and . . . cheap.

BMW: uh, too snobby.

Well, that's about it, I had a 91 Escort GT and LOVED it. Got the SVT because of all the zooty stuff, because of the experience with the GT and the semi-exclusivity of it all. I've had a heap of problems bit I think I've worked most of them out; hopefully.

Sorry you're considering lemoning your SVT, good luck.
