the cable that operates the duel stage intake broke yesterday...Im out if warrnt. so im stuk fixing it my self...
before I go 2 ford and spend lots of $$$$ I tried to rig it up by putting a screw in where the little plastic tab broke off...now when I start the car I hear the sound that soundl like a sewing machine for a few seconds..then it stopps and now my check engine light is on..but the screw is holding in there ok but it dont seem to be operating properly...but the weird thing is that the car seems to have more power?????
but I want it to be right so any suggestions?

uh oh, id make sure to check what the check light is coming on for. it might be something serious.

i have an ezscan-6000 autoxray that i use on my cars when their check engine lights come on. you should get one. its come out to be the same price a dealership will charge you for diagnostics.

It's acting like it's running faster? That's because it's probably stuck in the outer path position. What this does is causes the air to fly around the channel faster thus enhancing the performance of your engine. At cruise it should adjust to the inner path which is the shorter and slower track. It's kind of like velocity stacks. The longer the venturi is the faster the air flow. It applies to aerodynamics as well. The reason a plane flies is the application of Bernoulli's Principle, the air traveling over the wing moves faster than the air beneath the wing because of the camber of the airfoil. Of course we could argue planes fly because of newton. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

I'd do a plug reading just to make sure. It may be running lean right now. It should adjust air/fuel ratio automatically. Not sure if there is a sensor within the manifold as far as sensing the postion it's in. Maybe there is and that would be the answer to your CEL if so. Maybe someone else could contribute. You may not get any help as I've made nothing but enemies here.

You wouldn't happent to be a member of the Military, ShadNinja? If so I was going to say that if you had an Auto hobby shop you could borrow there's for free. If your not I'd invest in what xgambit recommended.

just go to autozone, or any autoparts store. they will Code-Read for free, and tell you what code it is throwing.
