Launching an SVT

I can't seem to launch my '02 SVT very well. It bogs down and stumbles when I pop the clutch . What's the trick?

Popping the clutch would be the problem. Don't "pop" it, feather it, and like the frush said, rev higher too. It is a little tricky to get the hang of, it takes some practice. Too little gas and you bog, too much and you burnout. BTW do you have two Focuses or what? You said you have an 02 SVT but your "what I drive" says 03 ZX5, green.

The way I see it is the powerband doesn't start til 5100rpm or so... that's where I launch (or try to)... try around 5000-5500rpm with feathering.

Youre right. Basically anything is better then letting the motor bog down though.

Thats why I dont launch at that high. True the motor doesnt really get going until around 5k, bad unless you want a really bonsai gung-ho launch, I would try to keep the revs down to give the clutch a break.

I usually launch around 6 or 7k........but everytime i let her lose there, you smell clutch......I don't know about launching around 4-5k, but I'll have to try it.......also, don't pull the TC fuse, because it is also linked up to your ABS, and that is bad. My car has the switch to turn TC on or off on the area by my shifter, right next to my seat warmer buttons..........but i unno if that is the TC kill switch or not, i never drive wiht TC on, i dont think.........If it is off, will the TC light pop on, or otherwise? Cause my light is *never* on............?

Yeah for me, I am not a big fan of ABS so I had no concerns removing the fuse. The on/off doesn't completely disable the TC as I understand and that's why I went the fuse route.
With that button, I believe that if the dash light is on then the TC is "off"... could be wrong, I haven't tested that theory.

As far as the clutch torture ... welcome to the race track ladies & gentlemen!! You don't have to beat on it like I do to have fun I suppose, it's just a matter of what you're after .
