K&N Cone Filters?

I've seen a couple pictures of guys with just K&N cone filters while using their stock intake piping. I figure this is a smarter approach if you're eventually going to boost or something. Or is there another more profound reason?

Anywhose, i must not be looking in the right places. But can anyone link me to where i could get just a K&N cone and adapter?

thanks

if you want to do it all you have to do is remove the air box and go to auto zone and special order a cone filter that has a 3.25 inch boot i had it on the 2002 zx3 i had it seemed to work really well, but i had exhaust. on the svt it seemed to really sack the bottom and alright gain on the top, what i did was put in a drop in K&N and relocated the snorkel from by the hood line to next to the fog lamps it seemed to be about the same as the the cone filter in higher revs but it did'nt sack the bottom as much

yeah. i would ask for some dyno runs to see if this does anything. Take a look at the following thread, where someone shows real dyno results from installing a Volant intake. Seems to me you would be hard to show these gains with a DIY conical install.

Or how about this thread, which explains why the SVT intake is probably optimized in its stock form.

k&n RU-3530, a 70mm adapter can be purchased through many performance shops for focus/cougar/contour and such for 20-35, the filter from summitracing.com is about 35 bucks

I mentioned this in another intake thread but i suppose its worth mentioning again. Anyone try to combine a shorty/CAI, conceptually similar to the pipercross?

Relocating the snorkel seems to be a pretty awesome DIY project for the needy. But what do i do about that nasty plastic intake/air box?

By just putting a K&N style cone filter on your stock intake tube the only real gains you will have, is that you get the louder intake sound (cool in my book) and your wallet isn't quite as empty after the install. That is compared to spending the $150+ for a short ram intake that takes in just as much hot engine bay air as just the Cone filter would.

Just my thoughs.
