Woosh noise when stabbing gas

Was just wondering if this was normal..sitting at idle with the windows down if i give it a quick stab of the gas i get a kind of woosh sound, its either air moving fast or something rubbing...i am concerned that it might be my throttle cable rubbing or something...is this normal?

It's your DSI/IMRC cable getting ready to break. No, I'm not kidding.

hmm..well i guess its been getting ready to break for about 11k miles, its done it ever since i have the car, also, it doesnt matter how quick of a stab it is, the rpms hardly have to climb at all, which is why i thought it was something in the linkage

It's just your Zetec breathing. Enjoy it.

Yep.

My ZX2 did it as well (while I had it). My SVT Contour did it, but it was much louder then the Focus.

If the air intake was on the other side, you'd hear it less.

If you put a high-flow filter in (like a K&N panel) or a modified intake, you'll hear it even louder.

I guess I misunderstood what "whoosh" means to you. Since you mentioned something rubbing I was led to believe it was something more tangible than the slight sound of air being sucked in at the intake.
