Shift linkage "locks?"

yesterday while i was driving i went to shift into 4th, when i pull the lever back it traveled back about 3 inchs more, and then was stuck in that gear (the clutch worked i just couldnt move the gear) so i limped my car over to my mechanic and today they called and told me that the "Locks?" attached to some cable that is attached to my shift linkage were missing and that some bolts came loose so in essence my linkage was no longer attached to the trans, so im looking for a set of these "locks" if anyone has some or if they know a way to get everything back together that would be awesome.

I don't think you can get the shift cable ends (locks) separately.
You can however zippie tie them until you can get new cables:
http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/s...4&#post1979054
^^^That link has instructions for cable adjustment, but it also includes another to a pic of the cables with the zippie tie fix.

By the way, I moved this to the SVT area versus the MarketPlace where you had it.

I'm sure there's a few members here that did the zippie tie trick, and never did get new cables.
^^^Just keep an eye on em, and replace at regular intervals to make sure they don't break.

But, if it were me, I would fix it the right way eventually for peace of mind.

believe me i would love to fix it right away but i just bought new tires all new suspension and had to redo my brakes, so my funding is just to low to justify buying the cable now

Hey WD, quick update, i went to my mechanic and got my car, the piece your pic pointed out as needing the zip ties wasnt the stop the came off, the person that explained to me over the phone had it off a bit, Ok so just about 3inchs down the line from the end cap are 2 opposing threaded pieces that im assuming hold the cable to a mount on the backside of the motor, and when you crank them down there are (according to the mechanic) supposed to be some "locks" that you push in to prevent those pieces from unscrewing and thus causeing the cable to fall out and stop working correctly, now again according to my mechanic these locks look like a strange C clip or E clip, do you know if i can just stick some wire into the holes and lock them down thusly or do u know where i can get these odd E clips?? Thanks again you are allways helpful

Now I'm confused.
I have not had to delve into my cables that far to know what part you're talking about.
Can you get a pic of the cables in that area to help us diagnose it better?
