stock intake info

Iv seen the intake snorkel on the top of the engine bay on many a svt but not sure if this came on new/older or if this is a bit of a mod. Mine is located on the bottom and i have seen on here cases of people getting water into it. Not very many but i'm not one to take risk with things like this, living in ga, at times can be a problem. Iv seen people get around this problem with out moving it but was wondering what way would be better for air flow? Once i get a vented hood i will be getting a cold air intake. Until then was looking for any info you guys have for me. If there is a "how to" would love to get the link. Thanks titus

This is what i'm talking about.

The snorkel is standard SVT part on all of our cars. The European ST-170 (which is basically the same car) doesn't have the snorkel in pics I've seen so it looks like it is something the SVT guys added to it for us. Likely to increase the intake noise/sound and maybe reduce the intake restriction a bit. The intake is plenty for the engine so I'm thinking it is mostly there for sound.

Yes sir that is what I have but I was wondering if having it on the bottom Of the car like mine is insted of in the engine bay next to the radiator made any diff in air flow. If it's the same I will be moving it to the bay just for peace of mind. I do understand that the risk is very slim that it would ever happen but it will always sit on my mind every time it rains. My car is lowerd I would say an inch or so, not to sure.
