Limited Slip Differential

I'm new to the svtf and have already had lots of fun with the car. Now its time to start having a bit more fun. I plan on putting a good bit of money into this car over time. Iv been reading everything i can on this site but have not come across this lsd for the focus. i loved it on my Acura and was just wondering if anyone here has one installed and could give me some info on how they like it. pros and cons, any info they have. I do plan on adding a sc or turbo at some point in the very near future. Thanks titus

How long have you had your car?

I would enjoy it more before putting on the differential.

Try your car out in a local AutoX ...

And welcome to the forum.

If you have the money put one in the car I have them in both my focus’s. I installed one in my SVT summer of 09 and loved it so much I decided to put one in my 2007 focus ST. My ST was pretty much stock when I installed the LSD, the only work it had done to it was a little better springs and shocks. And let me tell you in a basically stock car I couldn’t believe how much of a difference it was driving it. You may ask why you didn’t notice that big difference in the SVT. My SVT at this point is a dedicated track car it has a supercharger and makes pretty good power, and it could spin the inside tire in corners so it was obvious that it needed a LSD. However a stock 2.3 doesn’t really do that, then wants the difference, the thing I noticed immediately with doing one in a stock car was how it felt though the corners under power. The best way for me to describe the difference is stock the car just goes though the corner. With the LSD the car is pulling itself though the corner the power delivery is so much better.

Other Benefits, rain and Snow it just way better. I drove me svt 20 miles in 6” of snow on all season tires that close the 40K on them.

Drawback, some say price but they typically don’t have one in there car.

Not really but have more usable power because you cant brake the one wheel free like in and open diff.

There are two different companies that i have found that make them. Torsen and Qaife. I have heard that the torsen isn't that great. its the cheaper of the two but you would have to make that decision. I dont have one in my car but i would really love one. Right now the price, and the fact that i just got married are the only things that are keeping me from it. some day i will though.

thank you guys for the info. I'm probably going to get it done soonish. I also saw that someone on here had a differential blow up and go right threw the tran case. AKA another reason I'm looking into this lsd. Not saying it will ever happen, but would not like to find out. Iv got 77,000 on mine and everything still seems to be going strong.

I've been running the Torsen and it's great. It's not "cheap and inferior." OBX *is* cheap and inferior. Quiafe is pretty dang expensive, but worth the money I hear. I've never heard of anyone complaining about the Torsen except for one person. It makes an incredible difference.
