Nope! It's an interference motor.

Just had mine done today! Woot! I'm at approx 125K kms... so that means just under 80K miles. The mechanic showed me the belt and it didn't look too bad. Maybe the previous owner changed it. Either way, I'm happy I did now I don't have to worry at all.

What most don't realize the belt runs all the time....not just when the car is moving so 80,000 miles on car might mean 90,000 + run time on the engine.

If you're timing wasn't set properly, I'm thinking you'd be throwing codes left and right.

Changed at 87,000. Belt and pulleys all looked good.

There is an "alignment" flat bar that sets the cams, and there is a screw in "bump stop" alignment tool that sets the crank. You will need both tools - don't attempt this job without them.

FYI - set the cam alignment tool BEFORE sliding the belt off. I was 180 out when I went to set align the cams and had to step away for a moment. Put the belt back on, rotated the moter, aligned and got no codes. Consider myself very lucky in this regard.

The proper flat tool from Ford will only line up one way; the slots in the cams are offset - precisely to keep people from setting the cams at 180 off.

Which is why I recommend installing the alignment tool BEFORE taking the old belt off.

I removed the belt, went to set the cams, and found the cams were 180 out. Had to reinstall the belt in order to rotate the motor 180. Got lucky, no CELs.
