stock alarm system default?

I have the stock alarm system on my svt and the horn goes off when you lock it so you know it is armed. well if you open the door from the inside or anything like that to where the alarm is supposed to go off, it doesn't. What is the problem?

Its a passive alarm. Just a red light that blinks above the stereo and an ignition that requires the appropriate "chipped" key to start. Basically they could smash your window and take your stuff, but they wont be able to hot-wire your car.
