Exhaust cam gear

Hey i was looking through the svt dyno thread, and saw that ppl who had an adjustable exhaust cam gear had around 10 hp over ppl who had the same mods but no cam gear. i was wondering what everyone who has it adjusted it to. i know someones dyno sheet said they advanced it 2 degrees, is this the prime adjustment, anyone with input please LMK. i wanna get one soon

You need to get on a dyno to find out where your cams are the most happy. Every engine is different.

If you install it carefully, start at 0 and you should be very safe from valve clash to at least 6-8 each way. But, you won't be going advanced IMO. Mine likes -4 and I've run it +/- 6 each way. It is a DOG advanced.

Tom says you won't see much (if anything) at WOT, and my experiments pretty much agree. Not much change at all at high rpm and full throttle. But, the way the engine pulls around at low rpm and part throttle is most definetly changed as you move the gear. It isn't hard to find where the car drives the best for your butt dyno.

This trip home had a guy come in with Adj cam gears that he set with his butt dyno after setting them on a dyno because some old fart told him he could adjust them better with no dyno so messed with his gears and he thought they felt better after the old fart adjusted them , he was down 11HP , readjusted them on the dyno and he know sees how much he had lost over the last 2 years of driving

Find a dyno to adjust the gears , start the pulls at 2000 and anything to get will be there at all RPM , if it does better at 2000 WOT it will be there at part throttle as well

Tom
