How many miles is too many?

There is a member on here who is local, I think 02svt or something along those lines. At any rate, he is selling his 2002 SVT Focus for 4k and it has 153k on it. I would be using it for a commuter, but I just don't know about the mileage. If any one can say anything positive or negative about this exact car, please let me know.

I am really meticulous when it comes to my cars and I have a feeling this will need a little TLC. I could be wrong however.

I bought my svt for $4200 with 60k original miles. Not saying this car isn't worth 4k just you might find a better deal is all.

Hmm, going to take a look at it in a few minutes. Man, that's just a lot of miles you know?

Replace the timing belt and clutch if they weren't done recently and you'll probably be just fine.

Miles on a car are so variant. It depends what kind of maintenance has been done, and if the car was drove like it was stolen or not.

As long as the above weren't issues in it's past (if you can ever find the truth out lol), it should be good to go.

It's not up to my par. Quite a few things cosmetically that I would need to have fixed right away. At least $1,200 in cosmetic alone. Just not worth it for me.

If you mean

'too many' for any 2002 model?

You can calculate by 'average mileage' being anything between 12,000 and 15,000 per year since the in service (first registration) date. The high end of normal mileage for it should be in the area of 120K. So, it does have high mileage - BUT "too many" is all relative.

i am looking at a 2004 svtf with 118,000 on it. the seller is asking 5,300 but i could probably talk them down. i doubt the clutch or timing belt has been done but the seller says that it is his wifes car so that should at least help out a little. i would probably do the timing belt on my own before i drove it a lot, but i think that this car could have some miles left in it.

did they resolve any of the issues by 2004? clutch, thermostat?

i know the pics dont look great, but that does not mean a whole lot. what would you offer for it?i was thinking like 4800?
