Timing Belt ?

Ive been told my my mechanic that my svt focus is due for a timing belt change ive got 93k on it and he said that ford recommends the timing belt to be changed at 90k. Is this true and is there anyway to tell what kind of shape my belt is in ?
thanks

90K or 6 years, whichever comes first is a good rule of thumb for the SVT because it is an interference engine. I had my timing belt done at the dealership just yesterday. My car has 64K but it is 6.5 years old. Much cheaper to change the timing belt than potentially having to get a new engine if the belt were to fail...

If it hasn't been replaced then get it replaced. The SVTF has a interference motor. If the belt breaks then valves hit the pistons and motor no good.

Ask your mechanic to tell you what shape your timing belt is in.

No don't ask him, just DO IT. It's like a $100 kit, to do the belt and pulleys. $200-$300 total is wellllll worth not having to put a new top half, or even entire engine in your car. It's an avoidable problem that should be addressed. Period.

It doesn't matter what condition the belt is in. At that mileage for that car (SVTF) you NEED to change the belt. I've seen them jump time, break, and be super loose before. Just because it looks good from the top does not mean it looks good when looked at closely. My belt looked fine till I changed it and found it extremely stretched out and it had hair line cracks all the way around it. I couldn't see that just by looking at it.

http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/x,ca...,parttype,5759 You can get it there, or through Ford I believe. Ford will cost a few more bucks.

I got the $73 Gates kit when I did mine, worked like a charm haha. You will have 1 extra pulley tho, don't be shocked about it.

I have the specific SVT kit. I have it in the for sale section for 120$. comes with everything. including valve cover gasket, t-belt, and pulleys.

However, I have the FORD one, and not an aftermarket "OEM quality" one. It's an engine so I only get the best.

Yeah just buy his. Has a VC gasket too, might as well replace that.
