Cam Belt replacement??

I have a 03 svt that just hit 120k.The service manual says it time to change the cam belt.Is it best to go back with oem ford or do they make a better aftermarket one like gates, goodyear, etc???Also what would be the cost to take it and have it done??Just looking for some good info. Thanks

I personally just got a Gates component kit which included new pulleys, which you obviously want to change.. and you might as well do your water pump too!

Cost for labor -- I'm unsure my uncle and I did the work, but the parts cost about $120. If you're at 120k miles and have never had the belt changed, I'd probably park the car as well because the SVT's have interference engines.

Wish my wife.. Erm, girlfriend would drive a SVTf. She likes mine but is afraid to drive a stick LOL.

I would definitely just tend to it ASAP. And like I said the Gates kit is complete with pulleys so that's probably your best bet, especially it's just a DD.

That's a bit steep. I would look for a local shop.

Just for the record, the water pump is in no way connected to the timing components and can be very easily changed independently. The water pump runs off of the accessory belt and is only held on by 3 bolts.

No, but you do have to remove the timing belt cover, and the motor mount don't you? For a $36 part that can cause headache I'd replace.. Especially at 120k miles.

Negative. Do not have to remove the motor mount. I don't have the timing belt cover anymore, but...does it cover the timing belt idler pulley? If not, that's all you have to get to.

I bought all of my parts from Steve at Tousley Ford to do my timing belt. They sell everything you will need to do it as a kit, including the valve cover gasket at a very reasonable price. The local Ford stealership charged me 100 bucks for the job, so by the time I bought all the parts, a new VCT thing (cant think of what its called right this second) and had it done, I was 300 bucks into it.
