Best Belts

Hey guys,

Just a quick question. i tried a search and nothing difinitive showed up.

Saturday i was changing the fan resistor in my 02 SVT, and noticed that my serpentine belt is only about 3/8 of an inch thick. obviously that's not right, so i'm planning on getting one today.

Any suggestions. As i maintain my SVT i like to upgrade.

I am a Gates fan when it comes to the belts. You can look into those or stick with OEM.

check on CFM - > http://focus.c-f-m.com/

They carry the gates there or at OReilly's Auto.

Thanks thats how i was leanin anyway, but i just thought i ask and see. the belt that's on now is a gatorback and i expected it to last longer, but it just started coming apart in the last week. very strange. Does any one know any reason other than normal wear and tear that would cause that?

My original timing belt was a Gates.. Think all original Ford belts are, actually. So Gates would be an OEM basically.

I would go with a Gates. Just as good as OEM if not better.

i picked up a Gates on my lunch. $45 with a one year warranty. when i got back i cracked the hood to take a look and i think i found the issue. the belt is jumped a tooth one way on the alternator pulley, and the opposite direction on the A/C. i don't know if that is what caused the wear, or if that happened after the wear.

Wow ... well good thing you caught it. No fun when the belt fully comes off.
