Mexico Repair Success

Alright everyone. I had a previous thread regarding how my timing belt broke on my '02 SVT last November on Thanksgiving. I got the timing belt replaced the next day and it turned out there wasn't any compression on the first cylinder. I knew the valves were damaged on the first cylinder, so I had to get it replaced because it bogged and had really poor acceleration. I decided I would keep on driving it until it started to die. So I live close to the border in South Texas and my dad's friend who lives in Mexico had his '98 Ford Escort repaired a while back because the same thing happened to him. His Escort today still rides really well.

I know some of you might be skeptics about taking your SVT to Mexico to get it fixed but it was the best choice because they have some really dedicated mechanics. The mechanic took off the head and took it to a machine shop to get it repaired, replaced the intake and exhaust valves on the first cylinder, and also replaced a broken motor mount. He charged me $380 for everything which included new parts and the machine shop cost. I know in the states you can't get a better deal and it would have been at least more than twice than what I paid. He also detailed it for me inside and out.

I took the car in Tuesday May 4 and by May 7 it was ready. The car drives and feels great and with 108k miles it feels almost like new. It has more power than even before the "accident" and is really quiet on the road which is a plus when you have a girlfriend riding with you. So from December of '09 to May of '10 I was driving on 3 cylinders. It just shows how tough the SVT's really are.
