Heatshield is loose and rattles.

Hi all,

I have a loose heatshield, and was wondering if someone can suggest an easy fix. I have read some of the threads but wasn't able to find a solution. Maybe I should keep searching, but if someone can help me, I would appreciate it.

I have rattling at low RPM, and I know it is the heatshield. Please help :)

i don't know how it is secured stock. but there are several fixes that always work. double sided tape if it does not get that hot. zip ties, sheet metal screws. or just take the damn thing off.

Thank you for your suggestion. Is it okay to take off the heatshield?

Moved to the SVT Owners Lounge.

I wouldn't take that heatshield off...it's there to protect the rack and pinion.
Are you dead certain it's not the CAT bracket, or the heat shield on the CAT itself??

I'll bet ya, it's the CAT bracket, and not that shield.
It typically rattles right on the money at 1,800rpm.
See if you can get a mirror up there to look for cracks on the bracket where it bolts to the CAT.

I cut part or mine off and jammed the remaining bit so it doesn't rattle.

Some call it ghetto, I call it effective.

I had to cut mine off. If you go that route, be careful, its filled with some kind of white powder that gets all over the place. If you take the shield off, make sure you buy some header wrap to keep the temps down underhood. Its a bit of a pain to wrap it, and make sure to wear gloves, there's fiberglass all over that crap and youll itch like a mutha.
