Gates timing belt/tensioner kit - extra pulley??

So just installled my gates timing belt kit that also came with new tensioner and pulleys.

I couldn't help but notice the kit came with a tensioner and 2 pulleys. I only found a spot to use 1 pulley.

What gives, what's up with the second smaller pulley? Is this a kit that has multiple applications and you use the pulley specific to your motor? Extra parts left over are not cool....

They gave you the TCK294A kit instead of the TCK294B kit. I'm not sure but I think it will work just has an extra pulley.

yep a part breakdown on the gates site states that the kits contain the same parts just the A kit has one extra pulley the B kit does not.

Thanks, good to know. Everything went fine, timing belt fits fine just a bit unnerved by the extra pulley.

Just make sure that the idler you replaced is the same diameter as the new and you're fine. The small extra pulley goes into a threaded hole on the oil pump and was only used on pre-99 zetecs

No, it will cause problems.

Oh, and you won't be the only SVT Sedan for long. I am putting one together in the next couple of weeks.

It moves the belt where it isn't supposed to be.

I will have to finish that SVT Sedan, it is for a member here, I won't give out his S/N, until he comes out with it. I have done plenty of swaps before, so this should be a walk in the park.
