Just bought 02 SVT Focus need answers....

First of all let me say whats up everybody and happy to be part of the SVT family!!! I recently picked up an 02 SVT Focus with 80k on it, The car is overall in very good shape but i have some concerns, the car has aftermarket catback exhuast by HKS, Aem cold intake system and predator programmer.. The car seems to vibrate quite a bit around 1500rpm but smooths out past that very well, is this normal or do i need i need to be concerned with something like say, the timing belt?? My other question is when i changed the oil and drove it around the block i noticed i slight burning smell, i pulled out the dipstick and some smoke was coming out, the gauges never read that the car was hot, do i need to be concerned with this??? Any help would be very appreciated thanks!!

Welcome rookie!
Perhaps it also has an aftermarket tranny/lower engine mount? This would maybe be the cause of the vibration...
Does it idle good? Good power thu the rev range?

Timing belt isn't something you want to neglect on the SVT...trust me! I think your due...just to be safe.
Smoke out of the dipstick could be from exhaust blow-by..past the rings and into the crankcase. Maybe a compression check/leak down test is in order?
The SVT has a liquid cooled oil cooler...I doubt the motor gets hot enough to smoke the oil. But it also has piston oil squirters!
Maybe put the stock tune back in and go for a drive...maybe it's running way too lean?

yea if it starts rough and smooths out once your rpms move higher, it probably has an upgraded tranny/lower engine mount

I have, for now just a passenger side poly mount on my car, and that's exactly what they do, so it sounds like you likely have one -- most likely it's the tranny dogbone bount.

As far as smoke, I have an 02 as well.. and it does the same thing. It never says it runs hot at all on my gauges, but it ALWAYS smokes out the dipstick, and only the dipstick.. So I'm presuming it's from the oil squirters on the bottom.

Congratulations on the purchase! You'll have tons of fun with it! :)

Sounds like the mods listed, there must be an aftermarket engine mount.. grab a flashlight and check.. I notice a bit of oil burn off when I change my oil also.. as long as it's not smoking out the tailpipe it shouldn't be an issue.. Welcome to the family!

I remember my old GSX-R750 (oil cooled)...the crankcase breather pipe would pretty much constantly trickle blue smoke outta it...

thanks everybody for all the feed back!! this gives me a good starting point to go by. The car runs very strong from 1500rpms and up and pulls strong, it just vibrates a lot before 1500 but not at idle. ill check the motor mounts and see what i got and i am planning on doing the timing belt soon... again thanks everyone
