okay for small shop doing my timing belt?

Im reluctant to take my SVT into the stealership because everytime I go there its a headache. I was recommended by some to this small shop and Im taking my svt to get the timing belt replaced. Is there a big difference between an svt timing belt and a regular zetec? should I just get it done at an SVT certified dealership? it would cost me almost twice as much

A bit off topic, well not really, but what did the stealership quote you on this? I am going to want to do my timing belt this summer and just want to know what I am in store for

Doing the SVT timing belt is pretty much the same thing as Zetec. Just need the right timing tools and if they have a shop manual or even the internet, it'll be fine. You just line the cams up, put piston #1 at TDC, mark the timing belt where it's at on the cam gears, and you're good.

Holy shit! I'm glad I have an uncle that's a mechanic.. I got a clutch put in, timing belt, motor mount, water pump, serpentine belt, pulleys, clutch master cylinder, brakes, and other odd stuff done for like $400.. Granted I helped him.

Unfortunately I wasn't there when he did the timing belt.. I wanted to see how it was done, but oh well. He said it's easy if you have the right tools. I'd imagine even a small shop would have the tools necessary, and from what I've gathered you'll know instantly if the timing is off. Chances are, if it is off, it'll only be off a tooth or so and shouldn't cause any damage, just run like poop, then you can fix it. Not 100% sure though.

I'd fork over $330 to get it done, I should start calling around... I was planning on doing it myself this spring sometime.

a small shop is good to go, one friend has a small shop and did mine, no problems at all, just like someone said, its just like in the zetec engine. The only thing i recommend you is to buy everything yourself from ford, and take them to the shop, sometimes they might buy bad quality stuff and you dont want bent valves. The shop charged me 100 bucks for doing both belts, replacing the tstat and fix some oil leaks
