Jay Racing HFC

Well, my cat took a dump on me and I am in the process of hollowing it out for the time being, but I am going to need a new one soon as I don't want to be pulled over or have issues with the RapidScreen trucks they park around here.

So, I have looked into my options...

I have ruled out RandomTech due to the issues people have been having with clearance and cracking (correct me if that has been addressed).

CFM would be an option, but they never have them in stock and I am not waiting for them to get off their butts to make more.

So Jay Racing is left and I am wondering if anyone could give me their impressions on them, any pics installed, etc. Anyone using one on a boosted car? I know there are a few here that have them, but I have searched and can't find any complaints or praise.

Let me hear it.

Read your post and was curious as to what a Rapid Screen truck was, so I googled it. That's crazy! Just thought I'd share...haha

yeah, that's how they handle emissions here. If you drive by one and fail, you have to go in to be tested ... so at least you have time to fix it first. But still not a hassle I want to deal with.

I have the RT cat and no problems with fit or cracking (yet). It was tight...yes. But makes no contact and seems like a nice piece. I suspect that the ones that didn't fit had bent headers because it is SO easy to do on this car. Knock on wood, mine is still unbent.....and now I have just jinxxed myself for sure....

Oh, I did have a couple of Low Cat Efficiency codes come up when I had the back O2 still working. Happened in the exact same place both times after the same run but didn't have a problem for many thousands of other miles. Something weird about that particular place, I guess. Have it turned off now with the tune so no more light.

I had read about a fellow proposing the pass by sensor type of emission testing a while ago and this is the first I have heard that someplace is using it. Seems a better way to go than making everybody pay every year to get their car tested when only a scant few ever fail. Better to get the gross polluters fixed than milk millions out of perfectly fine motorists.

I do not recommend Random Tech. Had the insides crap out on me just like your stock cat did. Jay Racing for sure.

I have a Jay Racing HFC on a NA ZX3. Welds are "OK"; they do the job. Fit is good. Clearance was not a problem. I'd recommend them. Shipping was speedy, too.

^^ wow, your nicely saturated and über shiney pics definitely help, lol.

Thanks to the both of you for your input! Looks like the Jay Racing HFC is very similar to the CFM in the respect that they are both utilizing a Magnaflow cat. Jay Racing's warranty, however, only goes as far as magnaflow will cover.

Here is my Jay's Cat....happy so far. May have to "massage" the top heat sheild as they are trying to keep the cat as high as they can. I put a piece of the header wrap between the sheild and oil pan to help keep heat away from the pan.

I am thinking about that stick on heat shield they sell at Summit racing ... putting that on the bottom of the oil pan. Couldn't hurt and its pretty cheap.

Thanks guys, for your photo's. Glad to hear it's a viable option. I wanted an RT, but just can't pull the trigger on them because of the cracking they had and others complaining about the internals coming loose ... and CFM is just can't keep them in stock.

These look pretty similar to the CFM one anyways - it's a Magnaflow cat.

I have a RT high flow and it melted inside like the rest of them and my car is also boosted via jrsc. I gutted it and am still running it hollowed out. It's not a bad piece from the outside but I question their quality, I wouldn't buy it again, for sure

It makes a better test pipe than it did a cat
