Recent mods...poly mounts and plugs.....huge difference!!!

So, having not done anything to my car for the longest time, I ended up having to spend money on it. With an engine mount shot, leaking coolant bottle and timing belt due for a replacement, I dug into the wallet and did a few very worthy things to my beloved SVT!

Obviously, coolant bottle and timing belt were replaced with standard parts.

However, due to the fact that an engine mount had failed, I decided to replace all three with poly mounts (VF Engineering and CFM). Wow!!! At last my Stage 2+ SPEC clutch and light-weight flywheel came to life.

Some vibration at idle, but not bad!

Then, I replaced the standard plugs with the copper AZFS22C/463 set I had. Gapped them at .060 and even though the car had already felt good, I was stunned at how it now felt smoother and dare I say "faster"!! Before anyone tells me that it wasn't faster, I know it wasn’t faster, but I even went to a friend and asked him to drive it. He'd installed the mounts for me, and hence driven it, before the plug change. He was as amazed as I was. The plug change made such a positive difference on the feel of the car.

Brilliant!!

So, I'm one happy camper and with the HTPerformance CM brace on order and pending, my car has just come back to life, and may even get better soon.

Cheers, Shane

The people who spec'd out the factory mounts did seem to favor vibration-lessness over control, didn't they? The lower trans-mount really changed the car, but after reading this thread I'm tempted to get the other two in the spring. Mine will hit their stops if I'm too aggressive and that can't be good for them, or the axles.

Glad to hear about your positive experience! Also, hope you have replaced the dismal factory tune with one from a reputable tuner. I have just upgraded my SCT 1 to the 3 from FSWerks and am very impressed with how the car runs. I'm sure Tom's tune is similar but he only tunes with Diablo....I think. Either way, you can't go wrong with a good tune!

I have Tom's tune......first thing I ever did to the car.....money well spent.

As for the plugs, I had used the coppers before but gapped them at 0.058 if I remember rightly. At that time they made a very slight difference....a little smoother. Now with a new set gapped at 0.060, the difference feels huge (considering the tiny investment).

Ray, you can get them from the dealer, but cheaper from online sources like CFM. Ordering from Ford online (fordparts.com) is actually cheaper than a visit to the dealership, but the web site allows you to pick the order up from any ford dealership! Additionally, the likes of 1stfordparts.com are a good source too.

The part number is AZFS22C for 1 and AZFS22C4 for a box of 4. I think the dealership may also have them under a new number of SP-463. CFM have them for about $12, but 1stfordparts.com has them for $1.72 each!!!!
