Help! how to take off center console for STS?

ok this may sound stupid but i have read through the STS install by wd40 and some other threads and I dont have the winter package with heated seats, therefore my center console is different because it does not have those buttons for the seat heaters so i cant just pop off that little area right behind the shifter as shown in the picture and i have to take it off, but how do i take it off? i tried prying it up with a screw driver but it doesnt move much and i dont wanna break anything. Anyone done this?

you should be able to access everything after removing the shifter boot (leather) from the console. Unless the svt shifter is that much different than the zx3 and you cannot access one of the screws for the shifter base.

You have to take the whole console out, but its easy. First, remove the front cupholders. Their will either be a Torx bit (T-20 I think) under each one, or a Phillips head screw (my 03 was Phillips head). Remove those 2 screws. Then, the rear cupholders, squeeze the center (the cupholder divider) and pull towards the front of the car gently, there is a little tab near the back of the cupholders that will need to be slowly worked out from its receptor. Remove the rear cupholders and you will see 3 small bolts. Remove them. Yank the e-brake alllllllll the way up and maneuver the console out carefully. I accidentally gouged up my e-brake lever by not being careful. Oh, and reach under the front cupholders and disconnect the 12V power outlet connector and thats it! Let me know if you have any questions.

I just did the Steeda STS last weekend, so I was a bit confused by WD40's post, too. I realized the whole console had to come out, not just pop off the little section near the shift lever.
