new svt owner, few q's with oil pressure

hey all

got a 2004 EAP 3 door svt focus (replacing my wrecked 05 zx3)

got the car, has the valve cover leaking and alxe seals leaking, going to fix them with a new clutch and timing belt job

however, old (dummy) gauge broke and dealer replaced it with a mech. gauge (sweet)

so when I would cruise around it would be at about 70psi and 30psi at idle, changed oil (motorcraft filter and 5-30 penzoil platium) and the pressure is steadly dropping down to now about 24ish psi warmed up at idle and 60 at 3k rpm. is this normal (when firing up and driving while it warms up it is at about 80psi)? when searching couldn't find what stock was so have nothing to compare to. before anyone asks haven't seen where they hooked up the gauge to.

also have a oil leak on the tranny, I assume that it is from the valve cover or could it be something else?

looking foward to having the car just want to get all the lil problems fixed before they become big problems.

Is the stock gauge really a dummy one? I've always heard that the one on 99-04 Mustang GTs were basically on/off gauges but my oil pressure gauge changes with my RPMs. I can't really answer your question but I was just curious if our oil pressure gauges are actual gauges.

oil pressure rises under load from the engine so more rpm will make it rise

well if they are reading actual oil pressure then ford must have changed in the last yrs of the SVTF. Has far as I know every and I mean every gauge that I have seen in a ford has been a dummy light with a needle. It's ether there or not. Now if yours is really working like that then YAY!! and your oil pressure seems fine to me. PSI in the 20's after being warmed up is normal. Yes it will rise with rpm's cause the pressure builds that faster you spin the oil pump. It's higher when it's cold due to the fact that the oil is cold and is thicker when cold which in turn causes higher pressure. It takes more force to move it or in this cause more pressure. All in all don't worry and be very happy and lucky that it works that way!! Oh and congrats on your purchase and also check out the TX forum. We just had a houston meet. We plan on the next meet to be at Baytown so we can really see who has the fastes focus around here. I'm pretty sure I have it in the bag but who knows maybe your SVT can beat me lol Here is the link to the Texas forum if you haven't found it yet.

Wow that's fantastic and it also makes sense why we can't just swap them into a regular focus and make them work. SVTF FTW!!!
