VCT Tuning

I just did the timing belt on the SVT and it got me thinking about the VCT. For those you that don't know I've been FI for sometime now and I've been tuning the car myself and in the SCT proracer you can adjust the VCT advance and retard.
Now I debated alot on if I should've deleted the VCT or not while doing the timing belt but ended up keeping it. So here's my thought, what if I set the timing to a static +5* or -5* on the SCT... wouldn't that be the same as me running a gear that's set to +- whatever setting?
In the software the cam is measured in angle against RPM and load. If I set it to say 0* for example isn't that the same as the adjustable came gear at 0*?
I understand that the VCT runs off of oil Psi and it may vary some and that's probably why the solid adjustable gear is better but the theory is there no?
