Lets talk insurance...

Ok, here's the deal. I'm shopping HARD for one of these critters. The hook was set by my gearhead cuz who had the Euro packaged, butt warmin monster with the serious HID's. He didn't have the car too long but, he's one of these folks that owns something for about 6 months max.

He informed me this evening that the insurance on his 03 SVT was as high as his BMW Z3! How is this possible? Has the sting lessened? These cars are in the 5 to 6 yr stage at best.

How bad do you think liability would be for someone that's 48 with a clean record?

Thanks

Phil

48 and clean record should get you some pretty danged good premiums. What year was the Z3? I could see that happening, if the SVT was new, the beamer old, and he had a thing or two on his record... depends a bit on the state too.

Insured in Alaska (where traffic isn't too bad, but ice is), my premium is something like $1,650 a year with full coverage - for a 22 year-old male with speeding tickets in three states (two on the record). For comparison's sake, my premium didn't change at all when I switched over to my 2002 SVT focus from my basic, power-nothing 2004 ZX3 - although this was in 2005, when the ZX3 was a year old and the SVT 3 years. Hopefully this conglomeration of semi-pertinent information yields some clarity.

And good luck with your search - despite the issues I've had (if you read around these forums, you'll find that some SVT's have nary a problem in their life, others have loads - mine falls into the latter category), it's been completely worth it... I love my baby.

Welcome to FF!

Thanks for the input.

I've got two bikes with Progressive. (They were awesome after a kid threw a can of chrome cleaner at me and I high sided in a straight line. Bike is better than it was.) Trying to figure out who my agent is to get a quote.

I've found some good examples with between 30 and 70k milage. Trying to get as much reading done here to make an informed decision before I drop the hammer. It's between the SVT and a Cooper S but, I can't see spending the extra bread on the Mini and there's more room in the Focus. I'm assuming parts are cheaper and easier to get.

I'm in Knoxville so, if you know of any good candidates email or PM me by all means.

Use willl be commuter/travel.

Phil -

You should be good on the insurance...

I'm 41 clean record...
2 full coverage (SVTf + wife's van) + liability only (Jeep) is less than $800 a year.

If I end up switching jobs - I might consider selling... 2003 Euro

My insurance didn't change much at all changing from my ZX3 to the SVT. SVT imo would cost more but had more safety features (side airbags, etc.) so the insurance agent said that helped keep it around the same.

For my SVT the cost is $297 for 6 months. That is with:

250/500/100K liability, and $1000 deductable on collision. That is me being 39 with a clean driving record and living in a rural area.

It is actually a lower premium than for my wife's ZX5.

You should be fine with your age. I am 22 and have a clean driving record and I am paying more for my insurance on my SVTF then I was for my 2001 mustang GT.

Im 20 with a clean driving record, except for an accident that I recently found is on my record as being at fault when it wasn't. But no tickets or anything and most companies wanted over $1800 every 6 months. Cheapest I could find was about $290/month, but i'll be 21 in a month and that accident BS will be off my record in a little over that.
