How to change the variable length intake runners actuator

Well, this happened out of nowhere, but the actuator for the intake runners fried. I went to Ford, dished out the $400 (thats with a %20 discount) and got the part. Now I have no idea were to begin, how the hell do you get to the end of the cable were it attaches to the manifold??

  • disconnect hose from your airbox to the TB.
  • unplugg wire connection to the air flow sensor
  • open up air box and remove the panel filter then remove all the bolts holding it in place.
  • pull straight up on the airbox ... you won't break anything, just give it a good yank.

with the airbox out of the way, you should have plenty of room to get in there.

I believe there's a write up in the How To Archive, I'll try and dig it up.

By the way, the "actuator" you refer to is more commonly called the IMRC.
