New guy - a few questions

Greetings all!!

I'm feeling guilty...am I a bad person if I bought my 17 year old daughter a 2002 InfraRed SVT Focus? See, I'm a long-time SVT guy, and my ride is a 2003 Cobra (box stock). So, clearly, I'm used to making ricers feel bad.

The Focus has been lowered with Eibach SportLine springs, and has General "Exclaim UHP" 205/40ZR17 tires on it. Oh! It's got those cleaver LED neon tubes under the front/rear facia...which I'm not sure is stock or not.

Only trouble is that it's so low that the previous owner jammed up the exhaust (header down-pipe) pretty bad and there is brake fluid all over the bottom of the clutch pedal. Other than that, I can't keep from behind the wheel.

* I'm thinking I'll replace the headers myself (FRPP ceramic coated)... is this hard to do? In my Cobra it would be a HUGE job...

* I've got an appt to get the master cylinder and slave replace tomorrow. Just didn't wanna deal with it. :-)

* The valve covers in the pics I have of other cars... there is a plastic shroud that says "SVT". Mine is missing. What is it called, what is the part number, and can I get one?

* I need to duplicate the ONLY one key I have. This seems like a really, REALLY big expense...like $120 (!!). Suggestions?

* I didn't get a key-fob/remote unlocker. Is it hard to buy them from eBay and program them myself?

All help appreciated! Can't wait to get rollin' in this lil rocket-car!
jc

Welcome to FF! Seems like an awesome first car for your daughter. If you just want a key that can open your doors, you can get one made at a hardware store. If you want an ignition key you will have to go to a locksmith. Which is about 120$ I got that quote from a locksmith by me. I am sure that is cheaper than going to Ford. As for the rest of your concerns Im sure some of the other guys/gals on here could help you with that.

Thanks for the welcome!!

Ya - wow. $120! I feel like I need at least another full key. I had a local locksmith say $50 if I bring him the car... the Ford dealer wants big $$.

I ask about the FOBs because I basically broke BOTH of the Cobra FOBs, and the Focus doesn't have ANY. They are pretty handy...

The header is easy so long as you have some basic tools and a jack. Most everyone with an svt has header dents though. If the dents isnt really bad, I wouldn't worry too much about it. The master cylinder for the clutch is a pain to install. As for parts contact Mike from Hilbish Ford. He is here in NC, like me. He will help you with great pricing. He can get you the key and remote. Get yourself in touch with William At Central Florida Motorsports. He can get you arp header bolts and Mac racer's choice copper header gasket. Whatever you do, don't sell the car short. It is a match for a stock gt mustang. When boosted they are more than formidable.

BlueFocusSVT04 -

Yeah, mines bad. Basically CRUSHED. It also leaks and makes the car sound like a 1972 Datsun 210. Not good.

Thanks for the pointers for parts - I will give the exhaust a shot!

I will definitely NOT sell this lil rocket short. I don't think it'll come close to a GT 5.0/4.6L, but it sure goes around corners like it's on rails! My daughters biggest problem is that *I* have the only key. I love driving this car!

Thanks again!

If you dont have at least one remote you cannot program them yourself you need to take it in for that. As for the key someone correct me if im wrong but if you have at least one key anybody can cut it and there is a procedure for you to program the key yourself the key should only be 15-20 bucks then about 3 to cut. They have a pats chip that needs to be programmed. At least thats what I heard.

you could always get one of those clever door-side code pads to unlock the car. not sure how much they are though...could be expensive?
