It always blows thier mind when I climb right under the car in my street cloths and check the car out. You can learn a lot about the life of an svt by peeking at tire wear, any marks in the header and front arms. Check the year too, I think maybe the 03's not sure about others had clutch issues and a free fix from ford...WHEN yours broke.
Of course pay attention to detail, power in the seat, interior lighting, cig lighter. MAKE EM WORK FOR IT :-) It's our market
Good luck man.

I don't personally know how to explain it but its a very easily breakable part, and if it is broke the car wont have its full powerband and you'll know it. Its located kinda under the tb and airbox if i remember correctly.

offer an otd (out the door) price and if the salesman gets up to talk to his sales manager dont budge from that price. the salesman always knows how much they have in the car but needs the managers permission to sell it at any price. so if he gets up stay with that price. more than likely he will come back with a number slightly more then your offer, but dont budge. trust me i deal with this everyday, but most people end up budging. and make me money. but for a focus owner i will help you out. (im a car salesman)

Most SVTs I see are right around the timing belt concern mileage. Makes sure it's either been done, or will be done by a Certified Ford Tech before you buy. That would be a deal breaker for me.

I had some guys that would not budge at all....but that was the dealership end. set a price and they would not go cheaper, also the printout they gave me didn't have a year visible on any part of the page, and they said it was worth about $6,500 so I was getting a good deal.

I guess that one didn't work out well for me, lol

try to get the VIN and check out the vehicle history.

Make your offer and be prepared to walk away from the deal if it dosn't seem good enough to you.

watch out for the '02 SVTFs as they have more bugs than the later models. Check the tires... they are a good indicator of how hard the car was driven. if it looks like the tires are worn on the sidewall, then the previous owner did not keep the tires inflated and could be an indication of poor maintenance. if the tread is worn all the way on the shoulder that will tell you how hard the car was driven.

check the condition of the trunk/hatch area as that is a good indicator of how well the car was taken care of (especially if youa re buying from a private party). junk in the trunk means they probably don't maintian it that well.

2002 models are generally going for the $6-7K range. Newer models are going for more than that. I paid $10K for my low-mileage '04 EAP (about 1.5 years ago)

good luck!
