wrong oil... oh well..

Well I was going through all my old maintenance records and noticed that the for the first 18k or so miles, 5w20 was put in my car. I've always took my car to the local dealership where I bought my car. Don't know why just call me stupid I guess.

Well I'm at 83k miles and my engine still runs strong. So, do the SVTs really require 5w30? Since I moved to CA, the first time I got my oil changed here, I caught them and if anyone remembers my old thread from 2 years ago. I went back up and made them change it to what called for in the specs. Ever since, I've been changing it myself and switched to RP. 60k+ miles later.

I sure did get the SVT treatment

I've always used 5W-20 since I first got my SVT.

Glad to hear this...my mini-van takes 5w-20 as well, so I was planning to use that anyways. I'm running a full syn, so I didn't figure it'd really matter.

Here we go again...
The SVT Owners Supplement calls for 5W-30 in our cars:

IMHO, 5W-20 is way too thin for the high rpm range our engine sees.

It does require 5W-30 but depending on how you drove in that period I don't think damage was done. If you did track days and used 5W-20 I don't think it's very good since 5W-30 is made to withstand higher temps. I would put a sticker on the cover that says 5W-30 if you don't change your own oil.

I had the same thing happen. I took my car to the same place and they always put in 5w20. Then I found out it was wrong. I have used full syn. 5w30 ever since and change my own oil now.
