svt vs duratec

so as many of you know i have been trying to get a new car for like the past few weeks, and i have been trying to get a svt, my problem is this, ,i have a friend that has a 2.3 dura, and says that it would be better than a svt in the long run...i am looking to mod the car, wich ever one i get, to around 300 whp, which one would be easier, less expensive, safer, etc etc

just tryin to get some added info on the svt to help me out, thx

the SVT come's with fordged internals an the 2.3L does not (unless you rip it apart an build it up) but the way i see it is buy the engine they still produce this way in the long run your not running around trying to find hard parts that you need.

It depends what you want to do. Your whp goal is attainable (with F/I) on either car. Considering your goal, I would say get an SVT. Not only is it going to be a more rare car, you get the SVT suspension and other goodies.

St comes with the SVT dampers, just not the springs. Everyone replaces the springs anyway...

Check out the SVT vs ST thread, they had a race a while ago...they are both great cars, the ST is just more responsive to bolt ons and the SVT starts out great. Either way, its a win win.

Yes but you also don't the interior, the transmission, the stereo, the HID's, and the badge

I'd say buy the Duratec though.

the guy i was talkin to said that the svt is pretty much maxed out, it has the best intake and exhaust, already comes with more aggressive cams, and the head is almost as good as the frpp one, just seein if there is truth in his words, cuz i know he is tryin to get me to get a 04 2.3

why you say that gustaf?

Your friend is correct, for an NA build an SVT is pretty much maxed out, plus Dura's have more torque and like someone said the Duratecs are still around, which is VERY important if you blow it up and need a replacement.

When you get to those power goals it really becomes the fact that you have to build both up, 300hp is testing the internals on the SVT. Many ran it, most blew it up and some still do but there are many factors. Plus the a 300hp Dura would beat a 300hp SVT since the gear ratios are better for a straightline, and you can still handle like an SVT if you upgrade the suspension.

If you were looking for a car to drive to do very little mods I'd suggest the SVT, it is a better package as a whole, but since you want to build it up, the Dura is the way to go.
