Long Term Plans....N/A Build

So, I've got some time to kill before my next class, and I'm thinking of how I would spend the money I don't have for an engine build. I want to stay N/A, just because I think it's cool. That and a few of my friends have done turbo builds, so I just want to be different.

Anyway, this thread is for what I want to do long-term (like maybe next Winter...or the one after that). Here's what I was thinking...

Rebuild engine (~80k on it now).
Reground stock cams (Kent does it still...right?)
Zetec head gasket along with maybe some milling....
Tom's tune

Now, I know the stock rods are forged, so they should be safe, right? What does everyone think for pistons? I want the car to run on pump gas, but I want to shoot for as high of a C/R as possible while still being streetable.

I remember hearing that. It would certainly be nice to buy them rather than send mine out for god knows how long...

your block should be fine just do top end work

if you must rebuild then use high comp pistons and lightweight rods

you could knife edge your crank to drop some rotating mass

I think its Cat Cams is selling SVT cams right now, it costs about $1300 to have them shipped here from the UK.

You might think about a custom intake with ITB's

with more compression and C16 fuel you could have a lot of fun

That's right...it's Cat not Kent.

I don't know how in depth I want to get (like the crank or ITB's). Even though this is a long term project, I still want it to stay relatively economical. Last time I checked, ITBs are anything but economical...but cool they are.

If I were to just do the top end work, would the stock pistons be up to the job? If so, maybe I'll just do the cams and Zetec head gasket at first, and then do a full-on build later on.

I am running my factory 186,000 mile bottom end with a heavily modified top end and my car is faster than a modded svt.

John ran 26psi and 360whp on his stock internals.

So youll be fine.

I guess I'll leave the bottom alone then. This shouldn't even end up being too costly, at least not if I do a light build at first and then do the real one later.

Cams~$1300
Tune~$300 (Already have an XcalII...just needs to be unlocked an loaded)

well figure $120 for the unlock at SCT and then about 200-300 for a dyno tune.

the guy that massive is using right now is about the best option in the area. i forget his name, just call them. He is really expensive though.

ill have to come up to union grove and see how this thing does when youre done

Expensive is right....oh well, it will be worth it. There's really not many options for dyno tuning a Focus around here. If only I had a Honda....King Motorsports is like a twenty minute drive...lol.

I'm thinking it should be good for 170-180ish wheel hp?
