11:1 compression daily driver on 91 oct

i am thinking about raising my compression in my car. with a zx3 head gasket and milling the head.

will 11:1 be ok on a daily driver with cali 91 oct?

it will be dynoed tuned

What do you mean when you say "it should be ok"??? Yeah, you can get it tuned to where it won't knock but do you realize how much power (or the lack of) you will end up with?? Would you care to take a guess? We've had this discussion before not that long ago...

Yeah, I'm one of them and I drive over a hundred miles a day! Read my previous post again. The issue I'm bringing up is how much power are they producing? My car runs just fine, I just didn't get any increase in power from increasing the compression, I actually lost some. Look at my dyno in the SVT dyno thread (that one was done before nitrous and before the increase in compression). I think the peak was at 155hp and 139lb/ft of tq. Now, I get 149 hp and I don't remember the tq number. Tom was telling me how much timing he ended up having to take out (but I don't remember now) because it was knocking so much. The result obviously was a loss of power. Haha, I just thought of this, but it took 3 days for Tom to even get that much! and my car was in front of him on his dyno!

The power curve IS a little better than stock however. The VCT eliminator and adjustable cam gears did that(mostly). It just won't make any good peak numbers. Once it gets at like 6k rpms the power starts to even out and go down a little right before it tachs out, it doesn't continue to increase.

BTW, one thing I don't think I have mentioned before is that Tom and I also dynoed my car with 100 octane. He added some timing and I gained 7hp and 7lb/ft of tq all across the power band consistently. It would be much more if I ran from 112 up to 116 octane!

Again, yeah, sure you can increase your compression to 11:1 and it run fine on pump gas but it's possible that you will not gain anything or even lose power. Tom has said this before on this board and he said it to me while getting tuning done. The SVT's compression is pretty much maxed out on pump gas. I had talked to him about doing this before I actually did it. He told me that it probably wouldn't be worth it because you might have to take out so much timing that it would just negate increasing the compression. Well, he was right.

You could probably get away with increasing it a tiny bit though but what's the point?
