which timing belt?

So I am looking at replacing the timing belt on my SVTF and was wondering about the different brands.

I've seen all the posts about using Motorcraft belts and tensioners, but mainly it is because other places give you the wrong belt.

I was looking at Rock Auto and they show an AC delco and Gates kit that includes the idlers, tensioner and belt for $91 - $103.

But I checked the cross reference and they show that belt fitting just about any focus... so...

Is there a real SVTF specific belt? and the parts houses just stock one that is very close but it is not exact?

what about the tensioners and idlers? Are gates and Delco bad? do they fail?

I don't have any friends at a ford dealer so I am going to have to pay cost for the parts and it probably won't be pretty.

gates and delco are fine brands.

I wouldn't think the SVt belt is any different it is still a Zetec block just with VCT which doesn't make a difference on pulley size.

Get a Gates Racing Performance Blue timing belt 300% stronger them oem only cost $60 and buy OEM tensioner and idler pulley

Timing belt is the same size as a normal Zetec and the idler pulley is the same but the tensioner is different.

usually anything napa sells is rebranded dealer parts.

you will be fine with most anything Napa sells.

Thnxs JRODSVT. I'm waiting to get the tools I ordered to do this & then I'll let ya'll know. It's been ages I haven't changed a timingbelt, it used to be soooooo easy when I was a youngster but I looked at how to do this on my Fofo and I was like WTF, do I need to be a spacecraft engineer now to change a * belt. (LOL)

As long as its a quality belt the brand doesnt matter... hell I'm running a duralast belt on my Turbo SVT and theres no issues at all with it.

when it comes to timing belts I would get nothing less than the best from ford. From personal experience, I have been buying from places other than Ford OEM. Till I had my VCT problem. I got my belt and tensioner from CFM and problems gone. I believe there are different belts. The idler pulleys on the ZX3 and SVT are different in size, so I would imagine the belt will differ in size also. In addition to that there are two different part numbers for each car, look it up at CFM's website. it specifically asks if it's SVT or none SVT. Just my .02 cnts.
